The Fashion Business Course Faculty of Business Management Department of Business Management, Osaka Sangyo University went on a training trip to London and Paris for 6 nights and 8 days from Friday, March 1st to Friday, March 8th, 2019.
In London, we visited Ravensbourne University and received a lecture from a professor from the university on the fashion situation in the UK, where online sales are growing rapidly. We were also deeply inspired by the presentation of graduation projects by local students of the same generation.
In Paris, I visited a historic Gobelin weaving* factory. I realized how difficult it is to pass on traditional techniques through market principles alone, as the traditional techniques are run by the state (civil servants).
They also learned about history by visiting museums and art galleries in both cities, and experienced the current fashion market by touring department stores, shopping centers, and street stores.
*Twill weaving, said to have been invented by the textile dyer J. Gobelin in Paris in the 15th century.
In the Fashion Business course, we hold training sessions in Europe and Asia every two years (with more planned for the future), with the aim of nurturing human resources with a global perspective.
