Teacher Training Course FAQs

Teacher Training Course

In order to obtain a teaching license upon graduation, from what year should I start taking teacher training course subjects?

We recommend that you start in your first year and work your way through the course in a planned manner. It is possible to start in your second year, but your course load and timetable will be very tight.

If I am unable to obtain a teaching certificate upon graduation, can I obtain one after graduation?

Yes, you can. Our university has a course enrollment system. This system allows graduates of our university and other universities, and students enrolled or completed graduate schools of our university and other Osaka Sangyo University Graduate School, to take courses offered by our university for the purpose of obtaining qualifications, etc. You can obtain a teaching license by taking and acquiring the courses and credits that are missing to obtain a teaching license. For more information, please see below.

It is also possible to earn credits for teaching subjects through the correspondence education system at universities that have a correspondence education department.
(Our university does not offer a correspondence education system.)

Course completion

I'm not sure how to take teacher training course subjects. What should I do?

First, please read the Teacher Training Course Guidebook carefully.
The guidebook can be downloaded from the Teacher Training Course website.

Do I have to take teaching-related courses within my annual credit limit?

The following teaching-related subjects can be taken in excess of the annual maximum number of credits.
● Among the subjects related to subjects and teaching methods for subjects, "Career Guidance" and "Information and Careers" as well as teaching methods for each subject
● Subjects related to basic understanding of education
● Courses set by the university

Other details will vary depending on the curriculum, so please check the "Teacher Training Course Guidebook" for more information.

Will the credits I earn in teaching-related subjects be counted toward the graduation requirements?

Some things are included.
This varies depending on the curriculum, so please check the "Teacher Training Course Guidebook" for details.

My timetable includes a required subject for the teacher training course and a required subject for graduation. What should I do?

Please plan your courses accordingly, as you will need to earn the credits necessary to obtain a teaching license and the credits required for graduation over the four years it takes to graduate. If you have to take a duplicate course, you will need to take the required courses in the teacher training course the following year. However, if you have to take a duplicate course in your fourth year, please consult with Center of Teacher Education first.

Teaching Practice

Where will the teaching practice take place?

Those who wish to obtain a junior high school teaching license will do their internship at a junior high school, and those who wish to obtain a high school teaching license will do their internship at a high school, so the internship will basically be done at the school they graduated from.
However, depending on the municipality, the training school may be a school designated by the Board of Education.

When and how long does the training take place?

It is held in the final year of the program, usually in May or June, but depending on the school, it may be held in the fall.
The training period will be 15 days or more if you are obtaining a junior high school teaching license or both a junior high school teaching license and a high school teaching license, and 10 days if you are obtaining a first-class high school teaching license.

If I am obtaining both a junior high school and a high school teaching license, do I need to do my teaching practice at both a junior high school and a high school?
If not, where should I do the internship?

It is not necessary to do it separately. If you are obtaining both a junior high school and a high school teaching license, it is common to do the practical training at the junior high school.
However, if the high school is willing to accept an internship of 15 days or more, the internship may also be conducted at the high school.

What is the difference between "Teaching Practice 2a" and "Teaching Practice 2b"?

"Teaching Practice 2a" (4 credits) is a required course to be taken if you are obtaining a junior high school license or both a junior high school license and a high school license. "Teaching Practice 2b" (2 credits) is a required course to be taken if you are obtaining a high school license.

When I went to ask to be accepted for my teaching practice, I was told, "The decision on acceptance will be made at a meeting, so we will get back to you at a later date." Is it okay to go and ask other schools as well just to be sure?

Do not apply to multiple schools. You must only apply to another school after one school has told you they cannot accept your child.

What should I do if my teaching practice overlaps with job hunting?

First of all, please schedule your job search so that it does not overlap with your teaching practice. However, if it does unavoidably overlap, please consult with your university supervisor or Center of Teacher Education immediately. Since teaching practice is only possible because of the teaching practice school, you must avoid causing any inconvenience to the school, so you may have to decline the teaching practice. Please carefully review and think about your future plans.

I would like to decline the teaching practice. What should I do?

First, please inform Center of Teacher Education that you wish to decline. The university will contact the practice school. After that, please call the practice school yourself to inform them that you are declining the teaching practice and apologize. After that, please visit the practice school and apologize again. Practice schools spend time and effort on planning schedules for prospective teachers. If you have to decline for unavoidable reasons, please be fully aware of this and act responsibly until the end.

Care experience

In which area will the care experience take place?

In principle, the nursing experience will take place in facilities within Osaka Prefecture and near the university.

Can I exclude dates that are inconvenient for me from the nursing experience dates?

If the reason is an official club match or job hunting, it is possible to gain experience in caregiving etc. at a social welfare facility (for 5 days).
However, this is limited to applications made during the prior guidance session for registering for nursing care experience. Applications made after this time will not be accepted.

Once the date for the caregiving experience has been decided, can the date be changed?

The dates for the caregiving experience cannot be changed once they have been decided.
However, if you are unable to participate due to unavoidable circumstances such as sudden illness or accident, it may be possible to adjust the date and time depending on the experience location.

Teacher Recruitment Examination

When should I start studying for the teacher recruitment exam and what should I do?

Although you will be taking the Teacher Recruitment Exam in your fourth year, please start preparing as early as possible. First, find out the content of the exam for the prefecture and city you will be taking the exam in, and use past exam papers and reference books available at Center of Teacher Education to study in a planned manner.
