Classes are divided into two semesters: early and late.

Accordingly, there are subjects offered in the first semester, exams in the first semester, subjects offered in the second semester, subjects offered throughout the year, and exams in the second semester (end of the school year).

Please note that exam times are different from class times (except for exams held during class hours).

Classes canceled

Classes canceled due to instructor's circumstances

If a class cannot be held due to a teacher's circumstances, a notice will be sent via the portal system.

Classes canceled due to weather warnings and public transportation suspensions

① Classes will be cancelled due to weather warnings or landslide warnings.

If any of the following conditions 1 and 2 apply at the reference time, classes will be canceled and exams will not be held. If the alert is lifted, classes and exams will be held as follows.

  1. When a storm warning, blizzard warning, or special warning (heavy rain, storm, high tide, high waves, blizzard, heavy snow) is issued for any area in Osaka Prefecture or Hyogo Prefecture (Hanshin region).
  2. When a landslide warning level of 4 or higher is issued in Daito City.

    *If warnings 1 and 2 are issued during classes or exams, the classes or exams may be canceled.

    ② Classes canceled due to transportation outages

    If any of the following conditions 3 and 4 apply at the reference time, classes will be cancelled and exams will not be held. If public transportation resumes operation, classes and exams will be held as follows.

  4. When the West Japan Railway Company (JR West) Katamachi Line (Gakkentoshi Line/Kyobashi - Matsuiyamate) is partially or completely suspended from the first train of the day.
  5. When two public transport systems, the Osaka Metro Chuo Line, the Kintetsu Railway Keihanna Line (between Hommachi and Ikoma), and the Kintetsu Railway Nara Line, are simultaneously suspended from the first train of the day.

③ Class cancellations due to other circumstances

If there is a risk of an extraordinary situation occurring, or if an emergency occurs during classes or exams, classes or exams may be canceled.

Naturally cancelled

If the teacher does not arrive within 30 minutes of the class starting, the class will be cancelled.

Make-up Classes

Make-up classes will be held for the cancelled classes. The make-up class dates will be announced on the portal system.

            

Absence from classes

Absence notices will be handled as follows:

  1. The notification requires an official document certifying the absence. *1
  2. The absence notice serves as proof that your absence was unavoidable, but does not excuse you from attendance.
  3. After the student reports the absence to Academic Affairs Division, the notice must be passed directly to the teacher in charge for approval and then submitted to Academic Affairs Division.

*1 Official certificate (medical certificate for illness, proof of attendance for family ceremonies, funeral thank-you letter for funerals, etc.)

As a general rule, we do not accept phone calls regarding absences from classes. Therefore, Academic Affairs Division will not transfer your absence to the teacher in charge. Please come to Academic Affairs Division at a later date. However, if there is a risk of infection or an incident or accident, please call Academic Affairs Division or Student Support Division.

Procedure for filing an "Absence Notice (General)"

  1. Please come to Academic Affairs Division with an official certificate (such as a medical certificate if it is related to an illness, proof of attendance in the case of a family wedding or funeral, or a condolence letter in the case of a funeral).
  2. Please fill out the "Absence Notice (General)".
  3. After receiving Academic Affairs Division, please present the "Absence Notice (General)" to the teacher in charge of the missed course.
  4. After you have finished presenting the form, please return the "Absence Notice (General)" to Academic Affairs Division.

Reports

If your instructor asks you to submit a report, please take note of the following:

  • Please attach a cover page indicating your department, course name, instructor name, student ID number, and your name.
  • If there are two or more sheets, please staple them together.
  • If your teacher gives you instructions, please follow them.
  • If your instructor tells you to "put your paper in the report box," please put it in the designated report box. (The boxes are located on the first floor of Building 14, the first floor of Building 3, and in the offices of each faculty and department.)
  • No corrections or additions will be permitted after submission.
  • Any submissions will not be accepted after the deadline.
  • Some classes may require you to write reports instead of regular exams, so be sure to attend class regularly to stay informed.

Intensive Course

Lectures for each course are usually held in the form of a year-round class in the first and second semesters. However, there are intensive lectures that are held during long vacations, etc., for reasons such as inviting a course instructor from outside the university. The dates will be announced on the portal system.

Overseas training

There are overseas training courses that can earn credits in the field of language and culture. If you would like to participate, please attend the language training guidance held in late March. If you would like to participate in the overseas training, please be sure to register during the course application period. For more information, please contact International Exchange Office.

Recognition of previously acquired credits

The recognition of credits already acquired before enrollment is a system that recognizes up to 60 credits acquired at other universities or junior colleges before enrolling in this university, or at higher education colleges or other educational institutions (vocational schools, etc.) separately designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as credits acquired at this university. If you wish to have this recognized, please follow the procedure below. Please note that applications submitted after the application period will not be accepted. In the case of vocational schools, the condition is that you have acquired a "specialist" qualification upon graduation.

  1. Application period: Early April of the admission year (please contact us for details)
  2. Reception location: Academic Affairs Division Division
  3. Required documents: 1) A transcript or certificate of completion issued by the school (must state the number of credits and assigned hours for each subject); 2) Student handbook, syllabus, etc. of the school (something that shows the curriculum)
